Old Testament Prophecies that Point to Jesus as the Messiah
For those who have wondered what Jesus' own people missed. . .
How could it be that almost an entire nation, waiting for centuries for the Messiah to arrive, missed it when He did come?
In Matthew chapter 15 there was communication between the Jesus and the scribes and Pharisees.
As the leaders questioned Jesus about the disciples not washing their hands before they ate, Jesus responded by asking, ”Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?” Matt 15:3.
Jesus continued by saying,
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Matt. 15:8-9
The disciples later told Jesus the Pharisees had been offended by His words.
At that time Jesus revealed their true condition.
Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. Matthew 15:14
Sadly, Jesus’ own people were blinded and did not recognize him.
John 1:10 says:
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
Centuries before Jesus’ arrival here on earth in the form of a human, Satan had understood that the sacrificial offerings were symbolic of a future atonement for the human race and of a coming Redeemer (the Son of God), to ransom man from the powers of darkness.
It was then that Satan laid out his plans to blind men from their understanding of the prophecies so that they would not recognize or accept him as their Saviour.
During Jesus’ day many of the leaders were not well versed in the scriptures and missed numerous prophetic indicators of the coming Messiah. The people as well, being dependent upon the leaders to teach them, relied on the education and experience of the leaders to tell them the truth. Yet, as Jesus said, the blind were leading the blind.
With blind ambition and desiring to have their enemies overthrown, the leaders continually taught that when the Messiah would come, he would establish a temporal kingdom and exalt them to positions of honor over their oppressors. Even the disciples had expected the same of Jesus because they had also been taught this very same thing. Jesus had to explain to them the true mission of his being there at that time with them.
“He was forsaken of His own disciples; denied by Peter; betrayed by Judas, [who was] urged on by the spirit of Satan. Rude soldiers mocked Him. The violent mob, instigated by the chief priests and elders, cried, “Crucify Him.” [John 19:6.] He was seized in the night and hurried to the judgment hall. He was arrayed in an old purple, kingly robe, and hurried from tribunal to tribunal.” Lt. 2, 1874, EGW.
Today, people still ask, “Is Jesus truly the Son of God?”
Let’s turn to the scripture prophecies in the Old Testament and compare them to what is said in the New Testament. I will provide some lists so you can do your own study.
While I am convinced Jesus was/is the Son of God based on my study of the scriptures, every man, woman, and child should be convinced for themselves based upon the Word of God. Below are these lists. Let me know what you think!

God’s Word is true, reliable and can be trusted. Since we know from God’s Word that no one can come to the Father, except by Jesus, it is imperative we know for certain that He indeed was brought forth from our Father in heaven.
John 3:16 tells us:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. - John 14:6
What blessed promises. I pray you will accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.
He died so that you might have everlasting and eternal life.
Let me leave you with this:
Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. Amos 3:7
